Going through recruitment is something I would advise every girl going to a new to college to experience. Even if you don’t find “your home” or decide sorority life just isn’t for you, it is a great first step to being involved on campus and making memories that will last a lifetime. Not to mention you might just meet your new best friend or a future roommate through the process, so sign up! You never know how things will work out.
With that being said, once you sign up you’ll have to decide what to wear. During recruitment, what you wear should express your personality from the inside out. Everyone is unique in their own special way, and this can really shine through with your choice of outfits. Three words to keep in mind when making your selections are classy, confidence, and comfort. What you wear can play a role in your first impression to the sorority women, and it is important to feel poised and optimistic when entering each room. Comfort in your clothing is probably the least significant of three; however, recruitment does involve some very long, warm weathered days. Most of these items you probably already have in your closet!
Above all, this should be a fun and exciting time! You are searching for a group of best friends, supporters, and SISTERS! Hopefully, this day by day guide helps you with any questions you may have regarding what to wear during recruitment! :)
PHILANTHROPY DAY:
Philanthropy round is the most casual of the three rounds and the first time you’ll be meeting the sorority women that make up the five chapters at JSU (sooo many emotions on this day and really every day haha). Usually PNMs are provided a Panhellenic t-shirt to wear along with shorts and sandals for this day. Some ladies dress up the tee with elaborate shorts or even a cute skirt. Others stick with denim or Nike athletic shorts. Again, this is a great opportunity to showcase your personal style. Sandals are typically the go-to for shoes on philanthropy day.
SISTERHOOD DAY: A good rule of thumb is that as the days go on the more formal recruitment gets, and sisterhood day is no exception. This is the second day, so you know a little bit more of what to expect. Think sundresses, rompers, and adorable skirts for this day. For footwear, sandals, wedges, and small heels are all acceptable.
PREFERENCE DAY:
Preference round is the most serious and most formal day. Sunday best attire and heels are suggested for this day. Most girls wear their favorite jewelry and the whole nine yards. This is the day you’ll pick your new home! Eeeeek!!!
FINISHING TOUCHES:
Sweat-proof makeup and frizz-proof hair products are musts as recruitment takes place during some of the hottest days of the Alabama summer. Tears of joy are bound to fall over the three day time span. I personally recommend waterproof mascara (I cried alligator tears multiple days last year lol). Jewelry is always great just make sure it's not distracting if you are nervous during your first few conversations. Also, be sure to bring plenty of lipgloss, so you’re able to touch up between parties!
BID DAY:
Aka the best day of the year! On bid day you’ll receive a tank or t-shirt and accessories from your new sorority based on their bid day theme. A neutral tank top and shorts are best to wear when meeting your rho-gam because you never know what to expect. Comfortable sandals or close toed shoes are great for this day because there is a possibility you’ll be walking a lot for bid day festivities. One thing is for sure, you’ll have ALL the glitter a girl could want!
